Start with the length of each wall the sectional will sit against, then check the fully reclined length listed on the product page. Standard recliners need about 12 to 18 inches behind them to recline, while wall-hugger designs need as little as 3 to 6 inches. In front, leave room for the footrests to extend plus a walkway of about 30 to 36 inches. Finally, measure your doorways, hallways and stairs and compare them with the largest single piece, not the assembled sectional.
